Paramount+ has dropped the first trailer for Golden Axe, a new animated series based on the classic SEGA Arcade game.
Showrunners Mike McMahan (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”) and Joe Chandler (“American Dad”) co-created the new TV series inspired by the side-scroller game.
Golden Axe (the arcade game) takes place in the fictional land of Yuria where the evil Death Adder has captured the King of Yuria and his daughter. Three warriors, a broadsword-wielding barbarian, Ax Battler, a battle axe-wielding dwarf, Gilius Thunderhead, and a longsword-wielding Amazonian, Tyris Flare set out on a quest to rescue the King and defeat Death Adder.
Synopsis:
Golden Axe follows legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they reunite to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder, who just won’t seem to stay dead. Their quest is complicated by Hampton Squib, an inexperienced and wildly underprepared adventurer whose dream of heroism far exceeds his abilities. Forced to work together despite their flaws, they must find a way to stop Death Adder once and for all.
The original Golden Axe game was followed by several sequels, including 1991’s Golden Axe II for the Sega Genesis and 1992’s Golden Axe III: The Revenge of the Death Adder for arcades.
Golden Axe premieres on Paramount+ on September 16th.
