Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris (10 March 1940 – 19 March 2026)

Chuck Norris, the martial-arts champion turned action star whose films and television roles made him one of the defining tough-guy icons of the 1980s and 1990s, has died at 86. His family confirmed he passed away March 19, 2026, after a sudden medical emergency, ending a career that helped shape the action-movie era Generation X grew up with.

To Gen X audiences, Norris was everywhere. His run of Cannon Films hits like Missing in Action, The Delta Force, and Invasion U.S.A. made him a staple of VHS rentals, cable TV marathons, and late-night movie blocks. In the 1990s, he became a weekly presence in living rooms as Cordell Walker on Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001), a show that blended western grit, martial-arts action, and old-school heroism in a way that perfectly fit the generation raised on both cowboy movies and karate flicks.

Before Hollywood, Norris was a six-time undefeated world karate champion, bringing real martial-arts credibility to his roles and helping popularize the genre for American audiences. His larger-than-life image later became the subject of the famous “Chuck Norris facts” jokes, cementing his place not just as an action star, but as a pop-culture legend whose toughness became part of the humor and identity of Gen X itself.
